Easter again....!
The journey started in Brisbane a few days before the race-
crews gathered for last preparations , collect the safety gear, load on the rafts, the flares, the necessary , just in case , hope we never use it, 'stuff'...
At QCYC the days were quiet, not a lot of people around , but sonme interesting locals..
at night it was quiet , and colourful,
the early mornings were still, the waters calm..
the trawlers swished past the boat each morning with the days catch..
the sunrises were stunning....
we met Len and Trev.......
every Thursday they meet to solve the problems of the world...
Wistari went out for a shake down sail... with no wind...
which proved to be good experience for the conditions to come...
or sat in the marina .. with no wind..
and race day finally did arrive.. with NO wind...
the crowds started arriving ,
.. including the VIP's
.... there were mini Piranhites everywhere.........
and then there were the cuddlers....
the workaholics....
and the cheery.....
we decided on some crew shots....
the Hot team.....
.......the cool team....
and the sponsored.......
We took a great team shot and threw a few VIP's in too...
...... Immigrant was at RQ ... we missed you............
the start boat headed out...
........the media boats took off too...
and after fluffing around a bit ...
Piranha , Wistari and No Problem followed..
Ben was in the zone....
Tony was all set for a great time ...
.. and Saskia didn't know ...
that was the fastest she was going to go for the next three days....
so ... to the start line....
and here we had a mix of yachts prowling back and forth...
so rather than try and put them into order ... which I no doubt will get wrong...
the only important yachts are the ones we know...
I promise to see more of that Bowman later...
It may look as though there were only about 6 yachts in the race..
but there were a few more out there!
No Problem in the background there...
No Surprise that Wild Thing was first around the mark..
followed by Black Jack
and Wedgetail Rodd and Gunn..
and Wistari last around the mark....
Boss Racing was the first multi around ....
Immigrant was up there with the big boat fleet
Maybe it's the diet of Red Bull and Red Bull...
No Problem saw my crew shirt and avoided the media boat ... I'll have to go undercover next year!
Piranha sailed stealthily by...
Wild Thing had alreadsy disappeared .. over the horizon..
so we after a last wave we headed to the finish line..
They tell me that
along the way there were
fabulous sunsets..
fabulous meals...
more dawns than needed ..
Wild Thing came into Gladstone Harbour
looking huge..
crossing the finsh line at approx 4.15
Black Jack was right behind them... exactly like Morton Bay
Looking like another cool team we know..
.. and so they followed ...
No Problem arrived home first
followed by Immigrant
and then the trophy presentations followed.
Everyone at the PCSC had a hugely successful weekend, took home a swag of trophies,
but most importantly everybody had a great time..
